Finline – the sofa maker making a difference
Experienced sofa maker invests to continue the company's surefooted progress

Founders Kieran and Bridget Finane established Finline in 1979 after noticing a lack of quality, Irish‑made sofas and chairs on the market. With the support of friends and family, the husband-and-wife team began designing the very furniture they sought to furnish their own home – comfortable, well‑designed pieces built to last a lifetime. Their sons, Ciaran and Kilian, have since joined the business as it embarks on its second chapter.
Relocating with a young family to the picturesque village of Emo in County Laois, Finline opened its factory doors in November 1979.
The company’s handcrafted furniture was soon introduced to leading retailers across Ireland, and throughout the 1980s the company expanded year on year to become a fully established manufacturing business in the heart of the country.
Today, every piece of Finline furniture is still made on site in its factory in Emo, using materials sourced from around the world.

Craftsmanship and materials
From the outset, the Finline family has been dedicated to making furniture with care and integrity. Founder Kieran has travelled across Europe sourcing quality, exclusive fabrics directly from the mills – each one bringing a unique sensibility to the Finline collection.

All the company’s frames are hand‑carved and assembled locally in Emo using kiln‑dried beech, a hardwood renowned as the finest timber for upholstered frames.

With nearly eighty skilled craftspeople on the production line and over 500 years of combined experience across the Finline family, their commitment to excellence is evident in every piece they create.

Expansive showroom and sustainable innovation
The new flagship showroom is a key part of an expansion strategy that has increased the workforce to over 100, underscoring a commitment to growth and innovation in the Irish furniture market. The expansive, gallery‑style space offers customers the comfort and opportunity to explore a wide range of upholstered home furniture – allowing them to see, touch and try before making their selections.

A new development, Finline is proud to unveil REVIVE – its Unique Take Back Scheme. Delivered in partnership with Loved Back to Life by Aiseiri, an organisation dedicated to providing community and residential services that help young people, adults and families overcome addiction and lead meaningful lives in recovery, REVIVE not only breathes new life into old sofas but also creates valuable work opportunities for individuals rebuilding their lives.

The benefits of REVIVE:
- • Finline’s renowned craftsmanship, performance and comfort
- • A feel‑good sustainability story behind the sofa
- • Supports circularity by diverting sofas from landfill
- • Significant savings compared to new models
- • Finline’s partnership with Aiseiri supports people rebuilding their lives
Kilian Finane commented: “We are so confident in our frame quality that we will take back old Finline sofas, refurbish them and resell them at an excellent value price point. The REVIVE initiative is being rolled out across all our showrooms, reinforcing our commitment to quality, sustainability and community.
Kilian continues: “At Finline Furniture, we’ve always championed quality, durability, and sustainability. With over 500,000 Finline sofas in circulation, we recognise the responsibility to keep these cherished pieces out of landfill. That’s why we launched REVIVE by Finline, our circular sofa project that gives old Finline sofas a second life
“REVIVE by Finline is more than a take-back scheme – it’s a partnership with the social enterprise group Loved Back to Life by Aiséirí, which helps individuals and families overcome addiction and live meaningful lives in recovery. Through this collaboration, we’re creating beautifully restored sofas while supporting sustainability and contributing to positive change in local communities.”

How REVIVE by Finline Works
“If you have an old Finline sofa you’d like to replace, REVIVE by Finline gives you the chance to do so sustainably,” explains Ciaran Finane. “Simply complete a form on our website, and we’ll evaluate your sofa. If eligible, we’ll arrange for collection and reward you with a €100 Finline voucher for each sofa that’s donated.
“Each REVIVE sofa is carefully restored by our expert upholsterers. Stripped back to its core, the sofa is rebuilt with fresh foams, fillers, and upholstery, often using eco-friendly or end-of-line fabrics. The result is a sofa that looks like new and comes with the same renowned Finline frame guarantee.”
Customers can explore the company’s collection of REVIVE by Finline sofas exclusively at its Dublin showroom on the Long Mile Road.
